Chiaroscuro: The Walkthrough
From OtherVerse Wiki
Welcome to Chiaroscuro.
If you've just arrived, you've probably taken one look at our wiki, compared it to Minos' labyrinth, and had thoughts of running away. It can be daunting, yes. There's a lot of information, a lot of theme to absorb, and it doesn't seem like there's any good place to start. Especially if you're new to MUSHing, it probably seems like more trouble than it's worth.
But whatever your experience may be, this guide will walk you, step by step, through the process of researching the game, learning the theme and the MUSH, and creating a character to get into the thick of the action. The six steps of this walkthrough explain everything from what roleplaying actually is to your first scene on the IC grid, so pick the step that best suits your starting point, and dive into the middle of it.
Step One: What is Roleplaying, Anyway?
- Explains the basic concept of roleplaying and some of the different forms.
Step Two: What's This MU* Thing You Speak Of?
- Defines what an MU* is, and what sort of games fall into this category.
Step Three: Connecting and Information
- Connects you to Chiaroscuro itself, directs towards some vital Wiki resources, and explains how to speak on-chan.
- Guides through the setup and installation of SimpleMU telnet client--for players new to telnet.
Step Five: Getting a Character
- Step-by-step walkthrough through character generation and writing a bio.
- Describes how a typical scene runs on Chiaroscuro, covering pose order, terminology, sets, and the importance of room descriptions and weather.
