In light of Duke Nillu's indirect request for improved security along Silver Bear Road, the Imperial Watch stationed at Fort Wolfsbane near the Imperial Township of Freehaven have arranged for additional patrols along the stretch of road, and for improved checkpoints at the northern reaches. Operations in the surrounding areas are also planned, but expectations of driving out bandit forces who may be hidden within the dense forests are slim.
The Imperial Watch has also posted a number of notices within Freehaven and along Silver Bear Road warning merchants with expensive cargo to notify the Imperial Watch and local town guards BEFORE they make their trade runs. One might suspect this is in reply to the news that the two gem shipments that fell victim to banditry had hired sellswords as their means of protection, and had not informed the Imperial Watch of their trading plans. An oversight that proved fatal on two occasions.
There is some dark humor within the merchant quarters of Freehaven that remark that some merchants would rather die rich just to save a few extra Imperials at the end of the day than spend a little extra to ensure they arrive at their destination without mishap.
