Born January 9th 3978 to William (Will) and Angela Gideon, Samuel is a Solan of Lunite descent but spent most of his childhood aboard the SS Virginia, his parents' freighter. It's assumed he spent some of his time on Demaria or possibly there were Demarian crew aboard as the solan speaks fluent Demarese with no accent. He's known to have picked up some piloting skills, but his upbringing, despite being aboard a freighter is well-rounded, mathematics, sciences, history, philosophy etc. His parents vessel was destroyed in 3996, although neither himself, his mother or his siblings were aboard at the time. Their ultimate fate was unknown until Gideon enrolled in the Academy in 3999 and informed the Union that the rest of his family now served aboard the freighter of a friend of his fathers, the SS Striker. He himself wanted to round off his education in the military.
Originally trained as a marine officer, he spent several years after graduation in various squads, eventually becoming a Lieutenant (Junior Grade) in 4006. His fast-track career ended when the UFBB Damascus captured a Concordance vessel. During the questioning of the prisoners, Gideon refused to follow the orders of his Commanding Officer (a certain Lt Majors) order for a more... rigorous procedure to gain information. Shortly afterwards he found himself 'promoted' as the Damascus' supply officer.
Initially hating the new role, he eventually grew into it, becoming a very good Quartermaster, mainly due to his easy going, yet focussed nature. He isn't however beyond a little corruption, which on the Damascus meant special favors in exchange for select items, the most famous of which was his constant supply of superior products for the Captain's Table. In late 4007 he was promoted to Lt. Commander (finally) and was assigned as the UFCV Versailles' Chief Quartermaster.
[edit] Coral Club and Avalon Ltd
Early July of 4008 along with a good part of the crew of the Versailles, Gideon mustered out. After a brief period of wandering he eventually bought the Coral Club on Beachhead, New Luna from a friend of his father's, Pete Daniels. At the same time he signed on as the XO of the NLS Avalon, a private vessel under his onetime commanding officer Tom Majors.
