Nature's Step

From OtherVerse Wiki

Nature's Step is a Druidic skill that reflects a Druid's unusual connection to nature through the Shadow, granting them a number of abilities that allow them to walk with nature herself in a variety of different ways.

Endure Elements

  • Permits the Druid to exist comfortably in hot or cold environments. Where one might feel the icy chill of snow, a Druid will not. Where one might suffer under scorching sun, the Druid will not. Note that this does not prevent the Druid from being blown away in gale force winds, or feeling the sting of hail stone, however. This also does nothing against magically conjured fire- the Druid's gift comes through nature.

Mechanics: Once a Druid reaches Fair in this skill, this ability is considered to be always active. Below Fair, it can be rolled, with a Mediocre easing uncomfortable but not dangerous temperatures.

Pass Without Trace

  • Permits a Druid to travel across an environment without leaving tracks behind them. Grasses will not bend out of shape when stepped on, nor will soil record their footprints as they move.

Mechanics: The skill is rolled whenever a Druid wishes to move without tracks. The result is used as an opposed roll to a hunter's Hunting check. Success on the hunter's part means very minor traces are left that allow them to tell someone has passed this way; the margin of success determines how much additional info can be gleaned.

Water Walk

  • Allows a Druid to tread on any liquid as if it were firm ground. Mud, oil, snow, quicksand, running water, ice, and even lava can be traversed easily, since the Druid is protected by the Endure Elements capability of this skill. A Druid can walk, run, charge, or otherwise move across the surface as if it were normal ground.

Mechanics: If an initial roll is Mediocre or higher, Nature's Step can be rolled in place of Athletics on liquid surfaces. The druid moves only as fast/well as a comparable Athletics roll would indicate. On an initial roll of Poor, the Druid cannot actually walk on a liquid surface, but is aware of their failure- they won't have to stick their foot in the lava to know something went wrong.
