[edit] Travel
Interconnecting exits link specific nodes of the grid, such as the Grand Old Opera House, training halls, and shops around the commons in the main city center of Necromundus. So, getting around between them is simply a matter of typing an exit abbreviation.
But travel destinations take players from one grid zone to another in a time-delayed process that emulates distance. Players can walk or run to these destinations (running is faster, of course), or they can acquire mounts that make even less hassle of these journeys.
[edit] How It Works
Room descriptions show Obvious Exits and You can travel destinations. Obvious exits are connected directly to the current room. Travel destinations require use of the grid travel system, either by walking, running or riding a mount.
[edit] The Commands: On Foot and on Horseback
[edit] Obvious Exits
Type the alias/abbreviation for the exit you want to use. If it's not locked, you'll pass through it to the room you're trying to reach.
To climb onto a mount, type mount <mount name>.
To go through an exit while on a mount, type +walk <exit alias>.
To dismount, type dismount.
While dismounted, you can lead your mount. Type +lead <mount name>. To make it stop following you, type +unlead <mount name>.
[edit] Travel Destinations
+walk <travel destination>: Starts you on the road to your destination at the slowest pace.
+run <travel destination>: Faster than walking, it reduces your travel time. (It's more accelerated on Angels, Demons and Dracoids, who are capable of winged flight.)
+trot <travel destination>: Faster than running on foot, this is your mount's equivalent of walking.
+gallop <travel destination: This pushes your mount to the fastest speed possible.
+eta: This shows how much time is left before you reach the travel destination.
[edit] Mounts
Mounts give players a quicker mode of transportation around the grid. They come in a few different flavors:
Player-Crafted: Created using the System 4.00 crafting system, players can craft various mount resources from special nodes located throughout the grid. Players don't spend anything but crafting minutes if they want to make their own mount. Mounts can also be sold to stables for re-sale to other players. Standard speed/stamina rating of 1/1, regardless of type.
Standard Staff-Created: Installed by staffers in stables on the grid. Players spend in-game credits. Different types of mounts have different speed/stamina ratings, and prices range from 10,000 to 100,000 credits.
Elite Staff-Created: Set up by the staff for subscribers. Players spend in-game credits, but all mounts come with a speed/stamina rating of .1/.1 - the fastest rating available on Necromundus.
Stables are currently located in: City Center (Necromundus), Commons (Whisperwood Hold/Cataract), and Village Center (Heathaze Village/Cataract).
Mounts need to be fed occasionally. If you +stable a mount, it is automatically fed. If it's hungry while you're traveling and out of reach of a stable, you can +craft forage and then +feed <mount name>=forage. Your mount will also eat just about any food sold in taverns.
[edit] Teleportation
Magic users with the Teleportation skill are able to use the special teleportation nexus in their training hall in the city center of Necromundus. This nexus has links to specific focal points in the realms of Cataract and Urland. They use MUDQuest skill tests. Each teleport costs 300 crafting minutes. Success yields a trip to the focal point and a tick up on the craftlevel.
The trip is one-way. To get back to the nexus from a remote location, type HOME and return to the training hall.
Magic users are also capable of teleporting other players to certain spots in the realms of Necromundus. It costs the mage 300 crafting minutes and 150 energy per teleportation. To set yourself up for a magic user to teleport you, type &teleport_approve me=<Name of Magic User>. The magic user then types +teleport <name>.
Approved spots for teleportation include:
- Necromundus City Center
- Southfield (Cataract)
- Whisperwood Hold (Cataract)
- Lower Cataract River (Cataract)
- Blistering Wilds (Cataract)
- Heathaze Village (Cataract)
- Shining Stronghold (Cataract)
- Urland City Ruins (Urland)
- Rest Stop (Urland)
- Agickin Theme Park (Urland)
