Thane Markos was always in the wrong place at the wrong time. His troulbes started when he was young and his father was arrested attempting to smuggle illegal goods into a spaceport. Thane was forced to atent a military academy until he was an adult, after which he returned to his homeworld to serve in the planetary militia. After finishing a short term there, Thane felt the wanderlust strike much as his father had, and began hopping from world to world, doing odd jobs along the way.

Eventually, Thane fell in with a mercenary group. There, he made a good deal of money hunting bounties. However, he only hunted the individuals that he felt were true criminals, or were a threat to the well-being of others. Unfortunately, Thane's bad luck would strike again, and one of the bounties he hunted proved to be more than he could handle. His ship was shot down and he crashed onto a planet. Miraculously, he would survive, though he lost both legs in the process.

Restricted to a wheelchair, Thane wound up leaving the mercenary group once and for all. However, after hearing of his exploits, Thane was offered a job by another militia. In return for his services, they paid to have both of his legs replaced with mechanical ones. He wound up staying with them for the remainder of his days, climbing the ranks to lead a small group of elite soldiers before 'retiring' to a command job behind a desk.

Thane had grown up a loner, and the unfortunate circumstances of his youth had made him rather callous. However, this trait would serve him well in the military organizations he was involved with. Though he wasn't well liked by most of his troops, he was respected. He grew to minor fame while hunting bounties, as the mercenaries he was involved with tackled some of the most difficult bounties posted. It was this notoriety that landed him the posting with the militia he served for the majority of his life.
